- A Child plucking a Rose is almost certainly a pendant to A Young Lady Playing the Guitar (also in the Wallace Collection). They were painted in the same year, are of the same size and format, and share the same provenance. This painting shows a much younger girl, plucking a rose, symbolic of purity and love. She takes the flower from a pot placed on an entablature supported by putti, the naked children traditionally associated with Venus, goddess of love. Since the pictures were painted in the same year, are of similar size and format, and share the same provenance, it is likely that they depict members of the same family.
