- Possibly exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1839. Dupré was influenced by English and seventeenth-century Dutch painting early in his career. The subject of this painting reflects that influence, but the technique, with its bold colour and rich impasto, is particular to Dupré himself. A chalk drawing by Dupré with a similar composition, signed and dated 1839, is in the Stanford University Museum of Art, Palo Alto, California.
