- Exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1827, before Decamps’s visit to the Middle East. Although previously called 'A Janissary', the costume is not entirely appropriate to the corps of Janissaries (which was bloodily suppressed in 1826). The present title is the one given in the Salon catalogue.
