  • Probably painted in the early 1850s, this is one of Troyon's largest and most imposing works. It shows the influence of Théodore Rousseau, but may also be compared with the Fontainbleau landscapes of Corot, such as 'The Forest of Fontainebleau', 1846; Boston, Museum of Fine Arts).
