  • Landseer first travelled to Scotland in 1824 (when he met Sir Walter Scott who was more responsible for popularizing the Highlands than anyone else) and thereafter he remained a regular visitor, going to the Highlands almost every autumn to hunt and paint. This seems to be a simple genre scene and not an illustration of a literary work.
