- Dateable c.1770, the painting was shown by the 4th Marquess of Hertford together with Boy with a Dog (P419). Yet, although they are framed in the same manner and were once thought to be pendants, they differ in size, handling and approach. The 'Girl with a Gauze Scarf' is much simpler in composition.
