  • This view, taken from the Bacino, or Venice’s inner harbour, looks north towards the Molo, the broad quay lined with taverns and shops along the waterfront of the Piazzetta. The painting is a close variant of a picture by Canaletto, now in the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan. This popular view exists in several versions by Canaletto and his studio. The successful rendition of the composition in this example suggests it was painted by a skilful follower of Canaletto.
