  • Exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1857 where it was identified in the catalogue as a scene of German Protestant mercenaries during the French religious wars of the late sixteenth century. The guns and swords are not entirely accurate for the intended period. Jacquand specialised in painting historical subjects.
